Synopsis
Clit wants nothing more than to truly be seen. The underappreciated erectile tissue wants to experience all the glamour and indulgence that surrounds this year's Pussy Award winner. Does Clit have pussy envy of that sweet little kitty? But Clit isn't the only one being overshadowed by others - all the body's organs of pleasure appear to be unemployed these days. The Office (with its sketchy obsessions with the penis) calls Clit in for a 'training' just as Clit gets an invitation to an empowering, hormone raging party event. Maybe Prostate can save the day?
IN THE BEGINNING WAS THE CLIT alternates between live puppetry and 2D animation, and scenes inside and out of an organ and nerve friendly body-cum-apartment. Clit, Prostate, Spinal Cord, and the two halves of the Brain live together not only in cuddly Hormoney with one another, but also with each working on their own personal issues. Particularly when they're not throwing house parties soaked in hormone and neurotransmitter filled cocktails. Communication expert Spinal Cord chats with the other organs and senses, while Brain won't leave the couch and can't stop (psycho) analyzing, engrossed in conventional obsessions with hard, phallic erectile tissues. No surprise, then, that Clit and Prostate don't even appear in today's schoolbooks. This appalling realization during an Office training kicks off a fiery politicization of these feisty glands – going from a parting of ways (and legs) with the office right into a street protest: Viva la Vulva! My voice, my choice!
Through witty repartee and detail obsessed puns, In the Beginning was the Clit excites not only the diaphragm but also the cerebral lobes of its audience. Watching imprints the anatomy and functionality of each body part on the viewer's memory, leaving no doubt that Clit's lack of desire is a direct result of the stubbornness of the patriarchy. Clit and her motley crew have always been here, now it's time for them to grasp their full potential and let themselves shine? (Bianca Jasmina Rauch)
